john pulls away, breath caught in his throat. perhaps he should be thankful for the other’s HONESTY, but his lack of good intuition led him to believe otherwise.
“well, it certainly isn’t ANY better to be the boyfriend who has to keep the secret ! ” he pauses, suppressing the feelings of INDIGNATION that boil inside of him. he wishes that his mouth doesn’t act any quicker than his brain– he truly hadn’t meant it. he knows that alex had selflessly submitted himself into maintaining this precarious relationship, and how stressful it could be. “i’m trying so hard to make this work, alex. a-and it’s going to. it’s going to.” he fights to keep hesitancy out of his voice, anticipating the words that come out of his mouth to be hopefully true.
john glances at his unfortunate lover, eyes drifting over the dark circles that paint the undersides of alexander’s eyes– quietly hoping that this isn’t the reason why he seems to be lacking sleep. “i just can’t afford to lose you.” a confession pushes past john’s own lips– a thought that had almost died on his tongue. it was true– in their current situation, risks are helplessly ABUNDANT. “i know it sucks- but we can get through this. all we need is TIME, i need time to be ready.”
